Saturday 9th May 2009, 09h00

Studio Collective invites beginner, skilled, and professional artists for a day of drawing and creative exploration. Move through our brand new scenic studios, exploring various subject matter, and drawing processes.

The event is designed to create an atmosphere of exchange, observation, and exploration between artists from all walks of life. Voluntary collaboration and discussion is encouraged, and on-camera interviews with artists will occur throughout the day. Various spaces will also be set up for exhibition.

Please bring your drawing board, preferred art materials, and enough paper for the whole day.

Themed drawing spaces

The following themes will be provided throughout our various drawing spaces: portrait drawing, figure drawing, mural drawing, landscape drawing, collage, frottage, digital drawing, pavement drawing, monoprinting and point intaglio printing.

Parking & restaurant available

Secure and ample parking is available on our premises. Our resident restaurant, the Country Café, will be open for refreshments and lunch. Studio Collective will not be providing refreshments or snacks, so participants are encouraged to bring their own picnic baskets.

Cost & venue

A registration fee of R 400 for the whole day is payable to Studio Collective. Please contact Toni at 073 707 3399, or. Bookings can be secured through online deposits.

Whether you are skilled, a beginner or a professional artist… All are welcome! Switch off your cellphone, leave the world behind and join us in an exhilarating experience of creative drawing where the focus will be on process as much as on finished work.

drawing marathon

The event will be supervised by professional artists and teachers but no formal teaching sessions are envisaged – rather emphasis will be placed on the variety of drawing experiences to choose from. You will be encouraged (but will not be obliged) to display your work in exhibiting areas and join discussion groups.

The Choice is yours….mural-size drawing, landscape drawing, digital drawing, pavement drawing, easel drawing, voluntary collaborations, view DVD interviews with artists, experiment with collage and frottage techniques and try monoprinting and drypoint intaglio printing based on your drawings.

In different studios and spaces there will be:
• Models for figure drawing and portraiture
• Dancers for motion studies
• Constructed set-ups.

During the course of the day you will be able to move from one studio or drawing environment to the next as it suits you. There will be specially arranged music and the Country Café at SAX will be open. You may choose to bring your own refreshments. Paper and basic drawing materials will be for sale – but it is advisable to bring your own drawing materials and lots of paper.
