EXTRA-MURAL SCHOLARS PROGRAMME
The fundamental objective of Studio Collective is to challenge and extend the conceptual, visual and technical scope of students of all ages. Studio Collective provides a stimulating working environment where students are given every opportunity to develop their abilities in both fine art and design. The approach is nurturing and process-sensitive so as to promote the development of a personal aesthetic and expression in the individual.
The Teaching Programme
There is a Mini Academy for younger children, and a Senior Academy for high school students. In addition, there is specialised assistance and Art Portfolio Scholars’ Workshops on offer to Grade 10 to 12 students who are taking Art as a Matric Subject.
Teaching is based on the principles of creativity, experimentation and innovation as well as critical inquiry and reflection. Students are given a thorough understanding of the formal aspects of image-making and the value of drawing as an essential medium of communication and expression.
From time to time there will be specialised demonstrations, visits to other specialist studios and master classes by leading professional artists and educators. Particular excursions and tours will be arranged according to opportunity and need in an exciting flexible programme. There will be written and verbal progress reports and scholars will receive Studio Collective certificates for courses successfully completed.
Visual Literacy
Lectures, discussions and visual literacy exercises will be used to complement and enrich the practical programme.
Safety
The Clubview studio where classes for scholars are on offer, is situated in a security area. Safety, health and awareness of the environment are central in studio practice.
