The Clubview Studio is equipped with easels, chairs, work tables, drawing boards as well as drying and cleaning facilities. There are three double doors which open onto a large courtyard. A maximum of 10 students can be accommodated at a time.

March 25, 2010  Painting with Water-Based Media
PA-001
This course is a comparative study of the three classic water-based media: watercolour, gouache and acrylic, so that beginners and experienced students can make informed comparisons and choices. Studio projects provide guidance through techniques suitable for each medium: creating textures, controlling opacity, applying washes and building layers. Students will also learn about different surfaces and brushes. A short visual history of each media will also be presented followed by analytic discussion around specific painting by master artists.
The course will consist of three months classes, one month water colour, one month gouache and one month acrylic. Instruction will be given by a number of experienced artists.
All of the water-based media discussed are on offer as specialised 8 week courses run by a specified expert in this medium.

March 25, 2010 Painting with Water Colours
PA-003
Presented by Trevor Lloyd Evans.
By the end of the course the student will be skillfully proficient in the technique of water colour painting.
A minimum of two completed works should be achieved by each student by the end of the course.
The main objective of the course is to introduce the students to the magic of water colour and to enable them to attain an end product which they would never have previously thought themselves capable of achieving.
The mastery of water colour is to learn to allow the paint to flow and then settle naturally so as to create the desired effect – often with unexpected and beneficial outcomes.
In order to achieve this, we will experiment with the application of washes, bearing in mind that water colour is a translucent medium and that its richness is derived from a process of layering. The texture and colour of the paper form an integral part of the completed painting and so this will be taken into account as will the importance of sketching techniques.
We will also experiment with various colour mixing techniques and methods of paint application such as wet on wet, wet on dry and dry on wet. In addition we will look at the use of masking fluid and dabbing effects.

This course is open to both beginners and those who have some experience. Oil painting will be taught in a focused and supportive environment. Students will be taught basic painting techniques including glazing, scumbling and direct painting, and those more experienced will be assisted in developing their personal approach. Artists' pigments, painting mediums, brushes, and supports and their preparation will also be discussed. Demonstrations and critiques are essential features of this course.
